boho duvet

Cheer up your bedroom décor in the bohemian style with these examples of colorful duvet covers. The bohemian style is a bright and casual style of home décor well adapted to modern tastes. This use of the word bohemian first appeared in the English language in the nineteenth century to describe the non-traditional lifestyles of marginalized and impoverished artists, writers, journalists, musicians, and actors in major European cities.

Bohemians were associated with unorthodox or anti-establishment political or social viewpoints, which often were expressed through free love, frugality, and—in some cases—voluntary poverty. A more economically privileged, wealthy, or even aristocratic bohemian circle is sometimes referred to as haute bohème.

The term Bohemianism emerged in France in the early nineteenth century when artists and creators began to concentrate in the lower-rent, lower class, Romani neighborhoods. Bohémien was a common term for the Romani people of France, who were mistakenly thought to have reached France in the 15th century via Bohemia, at that time a proto-protestant country and considered heretical by many Roman Catholics.

ORGANIC MATTRESS

When buying a mattress, it’s vital to choose one that is made only with non-toxic materials. You may assume that if it’s an organic mattress it must also be non-toxic, but that’s not always the case. First, why is it so important to buy an organic mattress? A typical mattress is made with polyurethane foam as the filling material. Polyurethane foam is made from petroleum with added toxic chemicals.

Possible health effects can include cardiac arrhythmias, breathlessness, chest discomfort, irritation of mucous membranes, coughing, asthma-like reactions, blurred vision, headaches, dizziness, weakness, and fatigue. Memory foam can even be worse since it contains even more potentially harmful chemicals.
An organic mattress contains natural materials as the filling – usually organic cotton. Or you may find a natural latex or wool mattress. These are all great natural materials, but there are some factors to consider when looking for an organic mattress that is truly non-toxic.
An organic mattress with cotton filling is a good choice. Cotton is a breathable and firm mattress material, but make sure the cotton is 100% certified organic. Cotton is a crop that is grown with a lot of pesticides and these chemical residues can remain in the cotton. So for health and environmental reasons, it’s important to find an organic mattress that contains cotton that is certified organic.

Natural latex can be safe, depending on how it’s manufactured. You really need to check fully into what chemicals are used in the latex manufacturing process. Many manufacturers use a blend of latex and chemicals and still call it natural latex. Natural latex can be allergenic, a concern especially for children. (the FDA won’t allow a latex product to be called hypoallergenic). Wool is used in many organic mattresses and is a great bedding material, but can also be allergenic.
How can you tell if a mattress is truly organic and non-toxic? Find a mattress manufacturer that is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified. GOTS is the recognized organic textile processing standard for mattresses. A GOTS certification means that the mattress meets stringent organic and non-toxic standards. It’s also a good sign if the mattress has passed GREENGUARD standards. But you may have to do some additional checking with some of the GREENGUARD approved mattress manufacturers. There are very small amounts of certain chemical off-gassing allowed by GREENGUARD. Find a manufacturer that passes with zero emissions for formaldehyde, aldehydes, and phthalates.
Beware of labels saying the mattress is green, eco-friendly, bio foam, or soy foam. Most of these mattress manufacturers simply replace a small portion of polyurethane foam with plant-based components. Therefore the mattresses remain predominantly polyurethane foam.

It is illegal for mattress manufacturers or retailers to sell a mattress in the U.S. unless it passes flame retardant standards. Organic mattress manufacturers are not exempt from these requirements. They may add fire retardant chemicals such as PBDEs, boric acid, or other chemicals that may be toxic. It’s important to thoroughly check into what is used to pass the fire standards.
No mattress may be sold in the U.S. without being flame retardant unless the customer presents a doctor’s prescription for a chemical-free mattress. So if you are not being asked for a doctor’s prescription when buying your organic mattress, it contains some sort of flame retardant material.
You can find an organic mattress with natural, non-toxic and safe alternatives to chemical fire retardants that will pass the standards. Pure wool has natural fire retardant properties. If you find a mattress manufacturer that uses wool, make sure that the wool is organic and there are no additional chemical treatments to boost its fire resistance.
Another non-toxic fire retardant material is a combination of baking soda and hydrated silica. This natural fire prevention compound was designed by an environmental scientist. It is completely safe and passes all state and federal fire laws.
Fortunately you can find an organic mattress that is non-toxic and chemical-free. You simply have to know what to look for and what to avoid. An organic mattress is a good investment in your health as long as you find one with truly safe and non-toxic materials.

Jane Sheppard began researching the toxicity of children’s products in 1997 and founded Healthy Child at http://www.healthychild.com so you can find a safe, non-toxic organic mattress for your entire family.

Healthy Child provides you with the most up-to-date, reliable information so you can make informed decisions. All of their products have been extensively researched to be of the highest quality with the safest, most non-toxic materials available.

NATURAL MATTRESS

For anyone who needs a high quality sleep a natural mattress provides some of the best allergen free, environmentally friendly options for your bedding. The materials that are used in the creation of these mattresses are often organically grown or harvested, giving them an edge over those mattresses that are traditionally made.
The use of organic cotton or natural latex provides you with the most environmentally friendly sleep you can get.

Perhaps, if you’re not familiar with either material, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much care is given to the planet in order to create the bed quality you want without compromising on the Earth’s welfare.
Organic cotton is grown and harvested like other natural organics. The lack of harmful chemicals and the careful attention to rotation of crops helps to ensure that the surrounding environment does not have to deal with the hazardous runoff of traditional methods. Soil depletion is also curtailed as the cotton is grown and harvested. The final product is free from the toxic chemicals that are often used to treat mattresses and other sleep products.
Natural latex is also taken from the planet with care. Latex is made from tree sap, which is carefully harvested from your basic rubber tree. Rubber trees are able to produce enough sap to allow tapping 180 days out of every year. Furthermore, the tree actually repairs itself from the tap in about 60 minutes. These trees grow right along the equator, and are often harvested by those who live in cohesion with the equatorial forests. The sap is turned into the foam used for a natural latex mattress through a whipping process.

The use of organic wool has become popular in the production of the natural mattress as well. Organic wool is made from sheep’s wool, and those sheep are offered a high quality organically based diet. They are kept healthy and well exercised which helps to increase the quality of their wool. They are not slaughtered for meat but simply shorn for their wool.
The chemicals that are poured into traditional mattresses are in part due to the fire retardants that are used, as well as doused in pesticides and other chemicals that remain in mattress for as long as the life of the mattress. They are generally filled with materials that are synthetic and are also doused in chemicals during their production. Thus, you end up with a significant chemical base in which to sleep on.
All of these synthetic materials and chemicals can trigger allergy attacks, have been linked to health problems, and are certainly not environmentally friendly. A single mattress can provide enough pollution during its production to impact the immediate environment and ecosystem. It can continue to pollute the environment during its afterlife, often through the process of burning or sitting in a landfill.
A natural mattress for your bed, for a crib, or for a child’s bed is ultimately a much healthier route to take for your health and the health of the environment. The comfort, features, and durability of a traditional mattress is well matched and often exceeded with the natural version.

Dola Raheem is a niche marketer, his latest mattress website outlines complete details and information on the advantages and benefits of using a Visco Elastic Foam Mattress today. When you select a natural mattress, you will be able to enjoy comfortable and peaceful nights without worrying about toxins or allergens.

Make Your Mornings Great with the Best Mattress Toppers for Back Pain

Tossing and turning to find a sleeping position that doesn’t aggravate back pain makes for a miserable night. But what’s a body to do when all you want is to wake up in the morning feeling rested — and not in pain?  Unless your mattress is really old and unsupportive, a mattress topper might be the key to easing the pain and frustration. Mattress toppers have become super popular because they can increase comfort as well as alleviate aches and pains. Adding the topper to any bed can also lengthen its life because it helps protect the mattress from sweat, soil and dust mites.

Losing sleep is more than an annoyance: It is a chronic medical problem that affects 75 percent of Americans at least a few nights per week. It’s vital not to underestimate the importance of the surface you sleep on because studies have shown that it is “indeed possible to reduce pain and discomfort and to increase sleep quality in those with chronic back pain by replacing mattresses based on sleeping position.”

Of course, a new mattress is not always in the budget and according to WebMD, it’s not necessary to spend thousands of dollars on a mattress. The American Chiropractic Association notes that sleeping on a mattress of medium firmness to minimize any curve in the spine can help alleviate pain. In fact, a  medium-firm mattress is universally the best choice for most. Studies have also found that the old prescription of a super-firm mattress is not a good choice for people with back pain. That said, finding the surface that is right for you and the way that you sleep is key. And, speaking of sleeping position, medical professionals recommend not sleeping on the stomach if at all possible because of the way this arches the back.

Choosing a mattress topper can be challenging because there is a mind-boggling array of options available, from different thicknesses and types of materials to memory foam mattress toppers and a host of others. Homedit has sorted through the different types available and has come up with this list of the best mattress toppers for people with back pain.

Best Mattress Toppers for Back Pain

1. LUCID 3 Inch Gel Infused Memory Foam Mattress

LUCID’a plush 3-Inch Gel Infused Memory Foam Mattress Topper is thick enough to offer supreme comfort and ease pain without being too thick.  The gel-infused memory foam is extra comfortable because it offers the cooling properties that come with a gel-infused memory foam versus a plain memory foam topper.

All the properties that make memory foam models so desirable are found in this model. It is made from 100% memory foam that comes in a single piece, and conforms to the shape of your body to relieve pressure and ensure a better night’s sleep. The foam is infused with a gel material that captures and redistributes heat, ideal for those who “sleep hot.” The foam is high density but that does not mean that it is super firm.

Most all memory foam mattress toppers have an initial new foam scent and this one is not an exception; however, it will dissipate over the first 24 hours after you open it. The website notes that the topper comes with a three-year warranty.

2. Red Nomad Ultra Premium Memory Foam Mattress Topper

Although sleeping on the side or back is best, plenty of people can only sleep on their stomachs. For them, this thinner two-inch type is supportive but not so thick that it will aggravate the lower back. Red Nomad guarantees that your sheets will fit over the topper because it is one inch shorter on all sides. the company says that problems with orders will be made right, “from refund to replacement.”

Rustic and Farmhouse-Inspired Christmas Decor Ideas You Should Try

Christmas and rustic design and decor go hand in hand. They both inspire warmth and comfort so why not put these elements together and create a rustic or farmhouse-inspired Christmas decor this year? It shouldn’t be too difficult or expensive and it’s a great opportunity to use some reclaimed wood in your project. We’ve gathered a few ideas that we think can give you the inspiration you need to create something truly special this Christmas.

Let’s start with a rustic and cozy-looking entryway that’s all dressed up for Christmas. The hooks hold wreath and lantern decorations instead of coats and there’s also a lovely snowy garland on the shelf. The rustic Christmas sign and the little trees and houses complete the decor. Follow blessed_ranch for more inspiring ideas.

Throw in some red to create a colorful yet still rustic and charming Christmas decor. Go with a darker and more vintage nuance and complement it with some off-whites, browns and greens. We really like this whole setup shared by ourcottonfarmhouse. It looks very homely and friendly and it really captures the spirit of Christmas.

Since the idea is to create a rustic Christmas decor you can use things like simple wreaths decorated with pinecones and Christmas trees that have a natural vibe. This one is placed in a woven rattan basket and looks really nice. Of course it’s not just decorations that create the rustic and cozy ambiance that you see here but also the furniture, the accent pillow, the blanket and everything else. Check out bridgewaydesigns for more lovely ideas.

If you have a fireplace you should definitely decorate the mantel and the space around it. Use garlands and wooden ornaments to create a rustic decor and keep the color scheme simple and subdued. Try a Nordic-inspired approach since it’s a perfect blend of rustic and modern. A chalkboard sign would be a lovely piece. You can have it displayed on the mantel along with a bunch of other decorations. Maybe you can find inspiration in this design shared by redbrickfauxfarmhouse.

Corners can be difficult to furnish and to decorate but they sure feel cozy. Maybe you could set up a lovely reading corner with a comfy armchair, some fluffy blankets, a Christmas wreath hanging casually on the wall and a miniature Christmas tree in a pot. You could also fill a basket with some goodies such as some greenery, pinecones, maybe some firewood logs too. This was all inspired by a post from bridgewaydesigns.

Give your entire home a farmhouse-inspired Christmas makeover by hanging wooden signs on the walls, wreaths, bouquets of greenery and using a consistent palette of colors for all the elements involved. This way you crease a sense of comfort and you make the entire house feel wholesome and festive. If you’d like more details and ideas, follow jodie.thedesigntwins.

Filling the Christmas tree with all the ornaments you can find is very tempting but sometimes a simplified design can send an even more powerful message. We find that the Christmas lights are the most important thing. Take full advantage of them and let them shine. For an added touch of rustic beauty, wrap some gifts in some brown paper and place them under the tree. Follow farmhousechic4sure for more great farmhouse-inspired ideas.

Just look how charming and inviting this living room is. We absolutely love the farmhouse decor accents and especially the layered textures and patterns but also the color scheme. It shows that creating a festive Christmas decor is not and should not be complicated and all you need is basic supplies. The wreath that’s attached to the underside of the chandelier is a really cool idea. Follow jodie.thedesigntwins for more.

Check out this unusual Christmas tree stand. It sure stands out and is one of the elements that most prominently emphasize a rustic-industrial style. The tree is full and you can barely distinguish its branches so there’s a pretty big contrast between that and the simplicity of the stand. It’s one of the things we find most interesting this decor shared by ericalynnbirr.

There’s definitely plenty that you can do to also give your bedroom a Christmas-themed vibe. If you’re going for a rustic or farmhouse look, you should follow our_forever_farmhouse and see how best to take advantage of these styles without overdoing it. The secret is keeping things simple and working with natural materials.

In addition to your main Christmas tree you can also have a few miniature ones displayed around the house. You could just get some discarded branches and put them in pots containers. They’ll add a nice scent to the room and they’ll also help you achieve a warm and cozy Christmas decor with a hint of rustic beauty. This idea also comes from our_forever_farmhouse.

Symmetry is also something you can focus on. It often helps if you want to make a space look and feel inviting and comfortable because it gives a sense of familiarity. In a bedroom you could have a miniature Christmas tree places on each nightstand, a rustic sign centered above the headboard and some fir tree branches or a wreath attached to the chandelier. Check out bridgewaydesigns for even more inspiring decor ideas.

A really cute idea is to have a wooden skirt placed around the Christmas tree instead of a fabric one. It just has more character and it in tone with the whole rustic or farmhouse-themed Christmas decor that you’re planning. This could be your next DIY project before Christmas. You could make it easier by repurposing a basket and removing the bottom. In any case, check out ettsetfarmhouse for more cool ideas.

This would definitely have to be one of the loveliest Christmas decors we’ve seen today. The fireplace is definitely the centerpiece. The sign hanging above it is magnificent and then there’s also the Christmas tree and all the other little decorations that when put together create a super cozy vibe. Be sure to follow velveteenandgracega for more lovely rustic Christmas decors with a cabin feel.

Though I have a reasonable idea of how it should look , I think still regularly beautiful pictures of kitchens that really inspire me out . Feel the Blue and Add this 2020 Color Trend to Your Home

It’s a color that’s calm, versatile and exudes confidence: Classic Blue. So, it’s no wonder that Pantone has named the hue Color of the Year for 2020. Almost more than any other color, blue works with all styles of decor and is a great accent or dominant color. According to Pantone, “this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”

Long considered restful, classic blue tones help create rooms that exude a sense of peace and relaxation. Blue is often seen as a “non-threatening color that can seem conservative and traditional, writes A Very Well Mind. Pantone notes that people may be gravitating toward safe and restful colors as a counterpoint to the pace of life and race of technology.

Regardless of why they else they gravitate toward blue; people have long loved shades of blue for making their homes more calm and serene. Painting your walls in Classic Blue is the most obvious way to add the color to your home, but there are other routes to incorporating it into your home too.

For the Walls

It used to be said in the fashion sector that it is very difficult to mix shades of blue, but fortunately, that old maxim does not hold true. This setting by Calligaris has plenty of blue — in a variety of shades including classic blue. A two-toned rug is topped with a navy blue sofa that is set against a wall that combines sections of navy and classic blues. A geometric pattern covers the bottom portion and a solid classic blue for the upper section.

This unique shelving by Tortuga Living is installed on a wall of classic blue, which really sets off the natural color of the wood. This is a great example of how the hue can highlight other elements in the room like light-colored woods. With a color this rich and deep, you don’t have to paint the entire room a classic blue. Instead, opt for an accent wall if all four is too much for you.

Its name might include the word “classic, but this blue color works equally well in eclectic, funky or modern spaces. This living room was part of the 2019 Holiday House in New York City. The traditional paneled lower half of the wall is swathed in classic blue while the upper off-white half is covered with the graffiti that is integral to this room’s design. The setting also shows how Classic Blue is a fitting color for crown molding, as well as an element in the modern abstract rug.

In the Kitchen

Cabinetry that features color is definitely trending and Classic Blue is a perfect candidate for this kitchen element. Rather than opting for all-white cabinetry with blue accenting the wall, go for the bold choice of swapping the two. Because this hue is a classic, you don’t risk being uber-trendy as you would with another color like orange, red or some other bold hue. Besides, the color adds an important element of serenity to the area that is the hub of the home.

On Furniture

Furniture that is painted in Classic Blue is another way to add this great hue to your living space. Whether it’s shiny and lacquered-looking or rustic and distressed, like this credenza from Classic Home, the painted piece adds a great accent to a living room, entryway or home office. Incorporating a piece of furniture is a quick and easy way to add the color without the effort of painting the walls.

Serene Sofa

Upholstered pieces like a sofa are also a wonderful way to add a touch of Classic Blue to a living room or a family room. The color is relaxing on its own but when combined with sumptuous velvet, as in the Luke 240 from Munna, it becomes positively luxurious. The color works for casual spaces as well as more formal living areas, which is why it’s so versatile.

For a Daybed or Bench

Maybe you don’t want to give up your current sofa, so how about adding a bench or daybed in a Classic Blue? This Stiletto daybed from Naula has a bit of a midcentury feel thanks to the slight legs and angular profile. It’s plenty plush and luxe thanks to the velvet upholstery. A piece like this is sophisticated and ideal for a grand living room or an opulent bedroom.

Blue Accent Pieces

If you want to add Classic Blue to your decor but a major piece of furniture is not in the budget, smaller pieces can have just as much of an impact. This unique inlaid table from LH Imports is predominantly classic blue and adds a bright focal point to an otherwise neutral space. A blue ottoman adds another element of the color to the room without detracting from the impact of the coffee table.

Accent Lighting

Even lighting fixtures can add an element of Classic Blue to a space. This lamp from LZF Lighting is an ideal classic blue accent that’s easy to add or move around the house. This company’s lighting fixtures are made from wood veneers that are bent and formed into different shapes. This particular table lamp is the Carambola, which is actually a pendant.

A Classic Blue Base

Rugs provide a colorful base or anchor for a room and they are an ideal way to add Classic Blue to a room. The range of styles that are available means that you can swap out a rug and easily add blue to an existing decor scheme. This particular wool and silk rug is luxurious with an Asian flair, called the Jardin de Chinois by Wendy Morrison.

For Outdoor Spaces

When spring and summer roll around, don’t overlook outdoor living spaces because they too can sport the color of the year, Classic Blue. This dining set from Fermob is stylish, comfortable and painted in the coming year’s hottest hue. The color is great even for outdoor living not just because it’s relaxing on its own, but also because it evokes the rich feelings of nature.

As you can see, there are lots of ways to add Classic Blue, the Pantone Color of the Year, to your home’s decor, even if you don’t want to repaint. Swapping out elements of your existing decor — especially if it is largely neutral — can freshen up the space and bring this on-trend color into your home.

Ecco i nostri consigli.

Prepara i biscotti natalizi

Personalizza i tuoi regali

Modular a isola

Come?

Build an Indoor DIY Pullup Bar

You’ve probably been thinking about how to make your own pullup bar for awhile now, haven’t you? After all, nothing says strength like strength of intellect, and nothing says strength of intellect like figuring out how to screw together a bunch of big-ass metal pipes and bolt them to your wall when nobody is looking.

Supplies You Will Need for This DIY Pullup Bar

Supplies | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness | DIY Pullup Bar

  • 1-inch diameter threaded metal pipe at 36-inches in length
  • (x2) 1-inch diameter threaded metal pipe at 24-inches in length
  • (x4) 1-inch diameter floor flanges
  • (x4) 1-inch diameter 90-degree elbow connectors
  • (x2) 1-inch diameter T-connectors
  • (x4) 1-inch diameter threaded nipple connectors at 4-inches in length (these determine how far out from the wall your pullup bar will sit. We used 4-inch long connectors, which worked perfectly over our door frame. You could just as easily go shorter or longer, though I would resist going anywhere beyond 6-inches in length with these connectors because you will be putting quite a bit of stress on them while doing all those pullups)
  • (x2) 1-inch diameter nipple connectors at 1.5 inches in length (these are typically the smallest length connectors you can readily get at your standard hardware store)
  • Drill
  • (x16) 2-1/2-inch exterior screws (length is flexible but go as long as you can without busting through the other side of your wall. Don’t use cheap drywall screws for this!)
  • Level

Instructions

Step 1: Thread Your Elbows

Thread Your Elbows | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

Grab one of your 24-inch long pipes and thread a 90-degree connector onto either end. It does not matter which end you begin with.

Just hand-tighten these and all of your subsequent connectors down, you don’t need to go crazy tightening them.

Step 2: Thread a Nipple to a Flange

Thread a Nipple to a Flange | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

Take one of your nipple connectors (we used 4-inch-long ones, see below). And thread that into one of your floor flanges.

Step 3: Add Connector to Pipe

Add Connector to Pipe | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

Take the flange with the nipple connection on it, and thread the other end of that nipple into the 90-degree fitting on your 24-inch pipe. I wonder how many times I can say “nipple” in this post?

Step 4: Repeat Steps 1-3 with Second 24-Inch Pipe

Repeating Steps 1-3 with Second 24-Inch Pipe | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

Do exactly what you just did with your second 24-inch pipe, threading it with an elbow and connecting a nipple+floor flange to that elbow. You will end up with two pipes that look like the image above.

Step 5: Add Some T’s

Add Some T's | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

Take your T-connectors and screw them down to the other ends of your 24-inch pipes. Attach the T’s from the center thread as shown below.

I look like I am about to punch myself in the eyeballs. Do this to both 24-inch pipes.

Step 6: Elbows for Main Bar

Elbows for Main Bar | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness | DIY Pullup Bar

Now it’s time to grab another one of our free elbows and one of the smaller, 1.5-inch nipples that we have. Screw that nipple into either end of your 90-degree elbow.

Do this twice, so you have two 90-degree elbows ready to screw. Create two separate elbows with widdle nipples that look like this. Awww…

Step 7: Elbows to Main System

Elbows to Main System | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness | DIY Pullup Bar

Now take those elbows and screw them into the top opening on your T-connectors. You want to screw them in so that the elbows face each other on each bar (because your 36-inch bar is going to go between them).

Confused? Please, that’s why we have pictures!

RELATED: 22 Easy Woodworking Projects You Must Try

Step 8: Add 4-Inches to T

Add 4-Inches to T | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

At this point, we only have one remaining opening on each of our T’s to fill, which is the opening currently lying on the ground on the right side of the above image.

Take your remaining two 4-inch pipes and thread them into each T. And add one more flange to both.

Step 9: Adding Center Bar

Adding Center Bar | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

At this point, we are almost finished. We just need to add our center bar to the system and we’ll be banging out pullups in no time.

Lay your pipe configuration down like this so you can follow along.

See those two lovely 90-degree elbows facing each other? We need to screw something into those!

Pull out that 36-inch bar and thread it into either of the available elbows.

Adding center bar | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness | DIY Pullup Bar

To attach the other end, we need to get a little more graceful. Because this is a fixed system, we can’t just screw the other side into the remaining 90-degree elbow.

So what we need to do is actually screw the elbow (and everything it is attached to) into the 36-inch bar. To make it easier, put the end that is already screwed down on the floor.

Then, with your foot on the fixed end, thread the entire second section onto the 36-inch pipe. Little tricky, but once the threads catch you’ll be good to go!

Keep working around with the top bar until it is nice and tight.

Step 10: Ready to Mount!

Pullup bar ready for mount | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

Alright, looking good. Our system has four flanges to connect to the wall, two side bars to spread out the load, and a center bar ready for pullup-ing.

Screws and power tool | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

Grab your drill and sixteen screws (four for each flange) and head on over to your wall.

NOTE: Pullup bars take a lot of weight, especially if you flap around like a dying whale on them like I do. When mounting this system (or any pullup rig) be sure you are attaching it to something strong!

If you have drywall on your walls, make sure you find the studs and go into them with your screws. We lucked out in the DIY Projects studios because we were mounting this over a custom doorway that had studs running up behind the drywall on either end of the door (it was built by the previous tenants, don’t diss on the construction).

Our 36-inch bar fits perfectly over the studs extending from the top and side of this doorway. If you have drywall to contend with, it’s likely (if the room was built to code) that your studs are spaced 16-inches on center.

If you cannot find the studs or don’t want to be limited by stud width, you can also affix supports against the wall before mounting your pullup rig. I threw some 1x6s up so you could see how that might work even though we didn’t need them.

If you put several big drywall anchors into these faceplates (properly), the weight would be spread out enough to hold the average dude. No promises if you’re built like Andre The Giant.

If you face your drywall with wood and anchor it well up the wall, it will provide a solid base for making a DIY pull up bar at home. Only do this if you know how to embed beefy drywall anchors.
Better yet, find your studs and make your rig the right width to correspond with anchoring it to your studs behind the drywall.

Step 11: Anchor Top Right and Bottom Left

Mounting top right flange | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

You can actually mount this in any order you want, but I find it easier to do it in this sequence.

Fixing top right flange | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

Put the top right flange of your system up where you want it against the wall. And put in your four screws.

Adding Screws | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness | DIY Pullup Bar

Now before I mount the bottom left, I want to make sure my bar is level.

Placing level bar | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness | DIY Pullup Bar

So I place my level up on the 36-inch bar until I’ve got my purty bubble in the middle. And then I can mount the bottom left flange.

Mount the bottom left flange | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness | DIY Pullup Bar

Step 12: Finishing off Your Mounts

Finishing off Your Mounts | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness

At this point, our rig is firmly in place on both the upper right and bottom left flanges. Now we just want to make sure everything else is straight before we finalize mounting.

Still working on the left side, place your level on the 24-inch bar and check where you are in terms of vertical straightness. Once it looks good, go ahead and lock in the top left flange with four screws.

Step 13: Finish off Any Remaining Flange Screws

Finish off Any Remaining Flange Screws | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness | DIY Pullup Bar

From here, we just need to go around and make sure everything is mounted firmly against the wall. We ran into a bit of trouble getting our last flange screws in, so I Macgyver-ed a little bit extender to squeeze into the space.

You can buy long bit extenders, but you can also double (or triple) them up in a pinch. It’s not what you got, it’s how you use it!

Get in there yah little bugger!

Step 14: Feel the Burn!

Man doing pullup | How To Make A Bombproof Pullup Bar | DIY Fitness | DIY Pullup Bar

Our DIY pullup rig is now successfully in place. The only thing left to do now is… hang coats off it.

Wait, hell no, time to do some good ol’ fashioned pullups! I like this type of shot because you can’t see the ladder I am standing on.

Wear head protection as dictated by your IQ level. MOMMY! MOMMY!

Like most tutorials, these DIY instructions on building a pull up bar with pipe will leave plenty of room for variation. The great thing about this bombproof model, however, is it is built with FOUR separate anchor points, giving lots of redundancy to the system.

This ensures it doesn’t rip out while you’re showing off your one-arm pullups to that special someone… and end up with a cranial injury that leaves you dribbling from a sippy cup and unable to pronounce your own name for the rest of your life.

Snow Chains Made From Zip Ties

Best DIY Snow Chains for Tires

Usually made from steel, snow chains are attached to car tires to provide maximum traction in the snow, making the process of driving less of a headache. While every resident that lives in a snow-filled community probably has at least one set of snow chains, that doesn’t mean that it’s not a good idea to know how to build your own snow chains and how to put on snow chains in case of an emergency.

But you might be surprised that you can make your own chains…with just zip ties. Not meant as a replacement for actual snow chains, but these DIY-models from Instructables’ user movemaine, can provide some quick traction in an emergency.

What You Need

Snow Chains Materials | Snow Chains Made From Zip Ties | driving with snow chains
For One Tire

  • six 36 in. zip ties
  • 24 12 in. zip ties
  • scissors
  • 6 in. snow

Before You Start

Make sure to check how many openings your rims have. One “snow chain” will go through each opening, so if you have six openings, you’ll need six chains.

If you have more or fewer openings, simply adjust the number of zip ties you use, but the process will be identical for all types of rims.

Instructions

1. Tying the Zip Ties

Tying the Zip Ties | Snow Chains Made From Zip Ties | how to put on snow chains

Start by tying a small zip tie to the long zip tie (which we’ll call the chain) about 6 to 8 inches away from the head. Tighten the small zip tie as hard as possible without damaging it.

Add a second small zip tie about an inch away from the first small zip tie. Continue this pattern until you’ve got six small zip ties attached to your chain.

2. Trim the Zip Ties

Trim the Zip Ties | Snow Chains Made From Zip Ties | driving with snow chains

Using a pair of scissors, trim the small zip ties to about 1/4 of an inch in size. You would not want some excess zip ties to be stuck and in the way of making driving complicated.

3. Repeat Steps

Repeat to trim the Zip Ties | Snow Chains Made From Zip Ties | best snow chains

Repeat these steps over to complete as many snow chains as needed. Do this on all others and make sure every zip tie is trimmed properly.

4. Attach to Tires

Attach to Tires | Snow Chains Made From Zip Ties | best snow chains

Once all your chains are finished, it’s time to attach them to your tires.

As a tip, turn your wheel all the way to the right. This will make the entire process much easier.

Now insert your chain through any of the openings of the rim, with the head in first, and then pull it around the other side of the tire, back to the front. Pull the chain towards the end of the opening that it would naturally slide over to help prevent it from moving around.

5. Tighten the Zip Ties

Tighten the Zip Ties | Snow Chains Made From Zip Ties | best snow chains

Connect the zip tie and tighten it, all while keeping the smaller zips (which is the grip) on the tread of the tire. Once they’re set, tighten the chain as best as you can.

6. Repeat the Process

Repeat to tighten the Zip Ties | Snow Chains Made From Zip Ties | how to put on snow chains

Repeat this process for all the openings on the tire. Around 5 to 6 zip ties will work for each tire of your vehicle.

They will stay on your tire when driving with snow chains through snow and ice, but they will likely break off if you drive for a long period of time on concrete alone.

Go ahead and watch the video provided by Jason Day and see how the zip tie snow chains are being used in a 6-inches of snow field:

Winter comes and goes, but there are many places across the world that have snow all year ’round, leaving many with no choice but to stock up on tools that make life easier in the snow and ice. One such winter accessory that many people heavily rely on to literally get through snowstorms are snow chains.

While they provide traction, these snow chains are by no means a permanent solution to driving on snow. So make sure that this coming winter season you are all set for your gear and for your own safety!

DIY Christmas Ornament Ideas For A Truly Special Celebration

My favorite thing about Christmas is that I get to make all sorts of decorations to display around the house. Every year I like to try something different and special just so it doesn’t feel like a repetitive event. Finding the right ideas for the projects is just as difficult as actually crafting the Christmas decorations. Of course, it’s also fun and exciting. With that in mind, let’s dive right into it.

First things first – the Christmas wreath. It’s usually one of the very first decorations that people are adding to their homes. It gets everyone into the spirit of Christmas and it’s a pretty simple project with lots of different possibilities when it comes to style and design. We feel like a felt ball wreath would really sum up the cheerful and playful vibe of Christmas this year.

We really like minimalism so we’d like to inspire you too to try a few simple projects this year. For example, you might enjoy making these snowflake Christmas ornaments out of square pieces of particle board. They’re easy to make and don’t really require a lot of materials or tools. Check out diys to find out all about them.

Don’t you think oranges smell like Christmas? Their scent brings back nice memories and creates a really cozy and pleasant vibe in the house. That’s why we love these dried orange Christmas ornaments so much. They’re actually really easy to make. All you need is some whole oranges, a sharp knife, some string and an oven. There’s really no reason you shouldn’t try this.

These embroidered heart ornaments are fairly easy to make as well. You need red felt, red ribbon, white thread and some stuffing. You can also add some rhinestones if you want to 9just glue them on). Make these ornaments as big as you want to but try to keep them cute. You can find additional details and instructions about this project on diys.

Natural Christmas tree ornaments made from things like citrus slices, cinnamon sticks or pine cones are really nice because they add an organic touch to the decor. They’re also easy to make and inexpensive but the thing we like most about them is the scent that they give off. Anyone can make these so why not go ahead and try it for yourself?

A lot of the projects that involve concrete can seem intimidating or difficult so not many people end up actually doing them. This one however is very simple and seems like the perfect project for a beginner. You don’t even need a special mold because you can make one out of styrofoam. Check out diys to find out the rest of the details.

We mentioned oranges twice now and we’re about to do it again because this is a really great project. The idea is to make a Christmas garland out of orange slices. You’ll need to put the slices into the oven first to get them nice and dry before you make the garland. Doesn’t it look lovely? It’s the perfect Christmas decoration for the fireplace mantel.

You can make beautiful Christmas ornaments out of pretty much anything. Even twigs can be a good resource. That’s exactly what this little Christmas tree is made of. Its base is a little slice of wood and its trunk and branches are twigs of different lengths and thicknesses. They’re help together by glue. If you like the idea, check out diys for more details.

Mini-wreaths are really cute and can be used as ornaments for the Christmas tree. You could make some out of Mason jar rings. You can wrap them in twine, yarn, string and whatever else you can find and you can even use different colors to create patterns and interesting designs. It’s a nice beginner-level project that costs little to make but delivers a lot.

Another cute idea that you might like to try this year is to make string art Christmas ornaments. For that you would need some wood rounds, a bunch of small nails, a hammer, needle-nose pliers, some embroidery floss in any color you prefer, paper clips and a hot glue gun.

You can also make Christmas ornaments out of straws. It’s actually pretty simple. You basically just cut the straws into pieces, you run some thread or fishing line through them and then you create the geometric shape that you want. Of course, this takes a bit of planning too. You need to know in advance how long the pieces need to be, how many you need and in what order you need to connect them in order to get these straw prisms at the end.

You know all those scrap pieces of wrapping paper you kept saving all this time? Now would be a good time to use them. You can make something really cute out of them, like this package wreath for example. You can use styrofoam pieces as your little “gifts”. Wrap each one in colored paper and mix and match the patterns and prints to create a nice combo. You can find additional details on handmadecharlotte.

Bottle brush trees are really cute and can be used in lots of different ways to create a festive Christmas decor around the house. One option is to have several of them attached to a piece of wood and to create a custom sign which you can display wherever and however you want, either inside the house or outside. The idea is inspired by a project from deliciousanddiy.

You can also make simple Christmas ornaments by filling some little favor bags with greenery clippings, mini pinecones and other such things. The idea is to create something simple and charming using items that you can find in your own backyard. You can find more details about this project on aprettyfix.

As you probably guessed by now, it’s possible to turn just about anything into beautiful Christmas ornaments if you’re creative enough. With that in mind, it might be a good idea to just look in all those drawers and boxes that you have around the house and look for items that you can incorporate in your future project. A very inspiring project in this sense is the one featured on pillarboxblue.

How about a little Christmas tree made out of wood? well technically they’re all made of wood but we’re not talking about natural trees in this case. The one we have in mind is made of lumber. We like how simple it looks and how versatile it is. Of course, if you want to you can customize yours in all sorts of cool and interesting ways.

There are also lots of adorable Christmas tree ornaments that you could make. Our favorite is this snowman. It’s not exactly tiny so you might not be able to hang it in the tree but you can definitely display it somewhere else. To make it you need a styrofoam ball, eyes, a carrot nose, a black hat, glitter and Mod Podge. Yes, it’s a very specific list of supplies but there’s room for improvisation. The same goes for the Santa ornament.

If you have enough time…and patience and the right supplies for this project…you can make a decorative Christmas shadowbox that’s absolutely charming. The actual tree-shaped shadowbox might be hard to find but if you really want to make this there’s also the option to craft it from scratch.

Make your Christmas tree really special this year by decorating it with mini terrarium ornaments. They’re basically just clear glass ornaments filled with soil, moss and tiny succulents. They look amazing and they’d also make a really nice gift for someone you’re close to. You can also hang these around the house in case you don’t want to hide them in the tree.
