ORGANIC MATTRESS

When buying a mattress, it’s vital to choose one that is made only with non-toxic materials. You may assume that if it’s an organic mattress it must also be non-toxic, but that’s not always the case. First, why is it so important to buy an organic mattress? A typical mattress is made with polyurethane foam as the filling material. Polyurethane foam is made from petroleum with added toxic chemicals.

Possible health effects can include cardiac arrhythmias, breathlessness, chest discomfort, irritation of mucous membranes, coughing, asthma-like reactions, blurred vision, headaches, dizziness, weakness, and fatigue. Memory foam can even be worse since it contains even more potentially harmful chemicals.
An organic mattress contains natural materials as the filling – usually organic cotton. Or you may find a natural latex or wool mattress. These are all great natural materials, but there are some factors to consider when looking for an organic mattress that is truly non-toxic.
An organic mattress with cotton filling is a good choice. Cotton is a breathable and firm mattress material, but make sure the cotton is 100% certified organic. Cotton is a crop that is grown with a lot of pesticides and these chemical residues can remain in the cotton. So for health and environmental reasons, it’s important to find an organic mattress that contains cotton that is certified organic.
Natural latex can be safe, depending on how it’s manufactured. You really need to check fully into what chemicals are used in the latex manufacturing process. Many manufacturers use a blend of latex and chemicals and still call it natural latex. Natural latex can be allergenic, a concern especially for children. (the FDA won’t allow a latex product to be called hypoallergenic). Wool is used in many organic mattresses and is a great bedding material, but can also be allergenic.
How can you tell if a mattress is truly organic and non-toxic? Find a mattress manufacturer that is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified. GOTS is the recognized organic textile processing standard for mattresses. A GOTS certification means that the mattress meets stringent organic and non-toxic standards. It’s also a good sign if the mattress has passed GREENGUARD standards. But you may have to do some additional checking with some of the GREENGUARD approved mattress manufacturers. There are very small amounts of certain chemical off-gassing allowed by GREENGUARD. Find a manufacturer that passes with zero emissions for formaldehyde, aldehydes, and phthalates.
Beware of labels saying the mattress is green, eco-friendly, bio foam, or soy foam. Most of these mattress manufacturers simply replace a small portion of polyurethane foam with plant-based components. Therefore the mattresses remain predominantly polyurethane foam.

It is illegal for mattress manufacturers or retailers to sell a mattress in the U.S. unless it passes flame retardant standards. Organic mattress manufacturers are not exempt from these requirements. They may add fire retardant chemicals such as PBDEs, boric acid, or other chemicals that may be toxic. It’s important to thoroughly check into what is used to pass the fire standards.
No mattress may be sold in the U.S. without being flame retardant unless the customer presents a doctor’s prescription for a chemical-free mattress. So if you are not being asked for a doctor’s prescription when buying your organic mattress, it contains some sort of flame retardant material.
You can find an organic mattress with natural, non-toxic and safe alternatives to chemical fire retardants that will pass the standards. Pure wool has natural fire retardant properties. If you find a mattress manufacturer that uses wool, make sure that the wool is organic and there are no additional chemical treatments to boost its fire resistance.
Another non-toxic fire retardant material is a combination of baking soda and hydrated silica. This natural fire prevention compound was designed by an environmental scientist. It is completely safe and passes all state and federal fire laws.
Fortunately you can find an organic mattress that is non-toxic and chemical-free. You simply have to know what to look for and what to avoid. An organic mattress is a good investment in your health as long as you find one with truly safe and non-toxic materials.

NATURAL MATTRESS

For anyone who needs a high quality sleep a natural mattress provides some of the best allergen free, environmentally friendly options for your bedding. The materials that are used in the creation of these mattresses are often organically grown or harvested, giving them an edge over those mattresses that are traditionally made.
The use of organic cotton or natural latex provides you with the most environmentally friendly sleep you can get.

Perhaps, if you’re not familiar with either material, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much care is given to the planet in order to create the bed quality you want without compromising on the Earth’s welfare.
Organic cotton is grown and harvested like other natural organics. The lack of harmful chemicals and the careful attention to rotation of crops helps to ensure that the surrounding environment does not have to deal with the hazardous runoff of traditional methods. Soil depletion is also curtailed as the cotton is grown and harvested. The final product is free from the toxic chemicals that are often used to treat mattresses and other sleep products.
Natural latex is also taken from the planet with care. Latex is made from tree sap, which is carefully harvested from your basic rubber tree. Rubber trees are able to produce enough sap to allow tapping 180 days out of every year. Furthermore, the tree actually repairs itself from the tap in about 60 minutes. These trees grow right along the equator, and are often harvested by those who live in cohesion with the equatorial forests. The sap is turned into the foam used for a natural latex mattress through a whipping process.
The use of organic wool has become popular in the production of the natural mattress as well. Organic wool is made from sheep’s wool, and those sheep are offered a high quality organically based diet. They are kept healthy and well exercised which helps to increase the quality of their wool. They are not slaughtered for meat but simply shorn for their wool.
The chemicals that are poured into traditional mattresses are in part due to the fire retardants that are used, as well as doused in pesticides and other chemicals that remain in mattress for as long as the life of the mattress. They are generally filled with materials that are synthetic and are also doused in chemicals during their production. Thus, you end up with a significant chemical base in which to sleep on.
All of these synthetic materials and chemicals can trigger allergy attacks, have been linked to health problems, and are certainly not environmentally friendly. A single mattress can provide enough pollution during its production to impact the immediate environment and ecosystem. It can continue to pollute the environment during its afterlife, often through the process of burning or sitting in a landfill.
A natural mattress for your bed, for a crib, or for a child’s bed is ultimately a much healthier route to take for your health and the health of the environment. The comfort, features, and durability of a traditional mattress is well matched and often exceeded with the natural version.

Dola Raheem is a niche marketer, his latest mattress website outlines complete details and information on the advantages and benefits of using a Visco Elastic Foam Mattress today. When you select a natural mattress, you will be able to enjoy comfortable and peaceful nights without worrying about toxins or allergens.

boho duvet

Cheer up your bedroom décor in the bohemian style with these examples of colorful duvet covers. The bohemian style is a bright and casual style of home décor well adapted to modern tastes. This use of the word bohemian first appeared in the English language in the nineteenth century to describe the non-traditional lifestyles of marginalized and impoverished artists, writers, journalists, musicians, and actors in major European cities.

Bohemians were associated with unorthodox or anti-establishment political or social viewpoints, which often were expressed through free love, frugality, and—in some cases—voluntary poverty. A more economically privileged, wealthy, or even aristocratic bohemian circle is sometimes referred to as haute bohème.

The term Bohemianism emerged in France in the early nineteenth century when artists and creators began to concentrate in the lower-rent, lower class, Romani neighborhoods. Bohémien was a common term for the Romani people of France, who were mistakenly thought to have reached France in the 15th century via Bohemia, at that time a proto-protestant country and considered heretical by many Roman Catholics.

SHABBY CHIC

Shabby Chic Furniture

Shabby Chic things are frequently painted with many layers, hence revealing places that were clearly timeworn. Washed-out and bleached are techniques frequently used on the design. Classic Linen in earth-tones, or floral shapes with pale colours, cotton ticking designs, are common of in the world of shabby chic fashion.
Flower landscapes are not unpopular within the shabby-chic style of decoration.

This is a gentle, calm, female, intimate fashion of decoration that seems engaging and comfortable.
The fashion started in Britain and is intended to evoke the kind of ornamentation often on display in big country houses where there are distressed and washed-out drapes and old chintz sofas, and old paintwork. Shabby chic’s end consequence would be to reach a total impact that is refined, rather than the sentimentally adorable.

Christmas Home Decor

Christmas Décor

Christmas is the one time of year that most people pull out all the stops when it comes to decorating. There is no such thing in the eyes of many as excess and the one who gets started last is the one who often finishes last. Each year the displays, lights, and sounds grow larger and more complex. The problem is that most people cannot keep up with the newest, latest, and greatest in Christmas decorations. For these people there should be no worry. Christmas is a celebration of good will and not a competition to have the grandest display (at least that is what it should be).Christmas Home Decor and Cristmas Tree

Christmas Home Décor Ideas

Hopefully, the ideas below will help you enjoy decorating your home for Christmas once again as a passion for the holiday rather than a competition. The most important thing is that you choose Christmas decorations that have meaning to you rather than the decorations you feel your friends and family will like. Christmas is very personal and different to every person that celebrates the holiday. Not everyone that celebrates this particular holiday will celebrate in precisely the same way.

Decorations For Christmas

If the nativity scene is central to your Christmas celebration then by all means be sure to include it. You should not, however, feel compelled to include it if you have a more secular than religious view of the holiday. Angels are the same way though there are many who have little religious use for angels that still hold them in high regards as decorations around Christmas each year. Go with your preferences and convictions and you might find that the process is a joy rather than a chore.

I am a fan of Christmas decorations I love the blinking lights and the beauty of the greenery mixed with bright shades of red and gold. I love the fact that 200 houses can be decorated for Christmas inside and out and it is very unlikely that any two will look the same. I love the fact that for one month out of the year children are looking out their windows in awe at the bright lights and the cheery characters that light up the cold wintry rooftops all around.

If you are lost when it comes to decorating ideas of your own, my biggest suggestion is to pick what you like most about Christmas and choose your home decorating style around that one thing. As the years go by, inspiration strikes, and you find more things to like or dislike about Christmas your decorations can change accordingly. Perhaps the greatest thing about decorating your home for Christmas is that nothing is set in stone. If it worked last year, that doesn’t mean it will work for this Christmas and there is no reason you should feel compelled to do it.

Some great ideas or themes for Christmas home decorating include the following: snow globes, cherubs, angels, Santa Clauses, snowmen, birds, candles, wreathes, and stockings. While this is by no means an exhaustive list of Christmas decorations it is a good place to start when ideas are needed. Favorites of my children include cartoon characters, gingerbread men, gingerbread houses, balls, grape clusters, and ribbons.

If you want to create a truly special style of home decorating for Christmas try a homemade Christmas. This means that all the ornaments, centerpieces, wreaths, garlands, and decorations are made by hand rather than purchased whole. It will certainly make an impression on visitors and you and your family can enjoy the process of creating your very own Christmas decorations for the holiday season.

There are so many wonderful ideas, tips, and tricks when it comes to decorating your home for Christmas that it is incredibly difficult to point to one specific idea and say ‘this is it’. However, finding a theme that speaks to your heart is what Christmas is all about. Well that and spending time with those who mean the most to you in the world.

boho style

Boho-chic is a style of fashion drawing on various bohemian and hippie influences, which, at its height in late 2005 was associated particularly with actress Sienna Miller and model Kate Moss in the United Kingdom and (as “boho” chic) actress and businesswoman Mary-Kate Olsen in the United States.
It has been seen since the early 1990s and, although appearing to wane from time to time, has repeatedly re-surfaced in varying guises. Many elements of boho-chic became popular in the late 1960s and some date back much further, being associated, for example, with pre-Raphaelite women of the mid-to-late 19th century.

Back pain can be a serious problem when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep. Choosing the right kind of mattress can bring much relief. A medium-firm mattress is often the best type for this kind of sleeper.

For those who sleep on their sides, then a mattress with some softness is needed to protect the shoulders and hips. Those who sleep face down, perhaps because of lower back pain, will often need a firmer mattress.

Your mattress probably came with a guarantee of ten years or more, However, there is a catch. If your mattress has even the smallest stain, then the guarantee is invalidated. This is one of the many reasons why you need to protect your mattress with a mattress cover.

They are not the best, not by along way, but they do the job.
Safeguard the investment that you have made in your mattress and use a mattress cover, and definitely consider plastic as an appropriate material.
Plastic mattress covers can best be described as cheap and cheerful.

Many people become overheated when in bed at night, and this can interfere with their sleep patterns. The use of a cooling mattress pad can prevent overheating and thus ensure sound sleep.
Becoming overheated is a very common reason for a getting a poor night’s sleep.

An excessive temperature can be a problem with any type of material, but these problems can often be somewhat more noticeable when you are sleeping on a foam mattress. Memory foam is one of the most popular types of mattresses as it is so comfortable and so it is most unfortunate that this is the case.

It can be difficult to find mattress toppers that are designed to cool you down. Manufacturers often label a topper as “cooling” – but there is no recognized standard in this area.

The wide range of mattress toppers and pads can make it hard to choose the best option.

The best selling mattress today is made of memory foam. The memory foam “remembers” your body shape and is therefore very comfortable. The same effect can be obtained with considerably less expense by purchasing a memory foam mattress cover to lay over your existing mattress.

Always remember that although a topper is much cheaper than a full mattress, it is still worth paying for a quality product.

A memory foam mattress topper will conform to your body shape.

Why you might want to purchase a chemical free mattressI was shocked when I did my internet research to discover just how many chemicals are present in most legally purchased mattresses. Chemicals such as fire retardants (PCBEs), boric acid, formaldehyde, antimony, toluene, styrene, and butadiene.

Obviously, these type of mattresses are not to be recommended if you are in any way allergic to these chemicals.
A good alternative could be a natural latex mattress;that is if you are not allergic to latex.
Wool is a natural flame retardant and is a good solution for many consumers.

Latest Update: 14th February 2017

One of the main advantages of latex mattress toppers is that they ‘breathe’. That is they do so if they use natural latex. There are air channels in natural latex that allows air to circulate.

This means that your skin is allowed to breathe as you sleep and the mattress toppers are cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Unfortunately there is one key disadvantage with this type of topper in that they are difficult to clean. They cannot be dry cleaned, neither can they be washed clean. However, it helps if bedding is regularly vacuumed. It should also be noted that natural latex resists dust mites, mildew, and mold.
