Have you ever watched someone you love travel a path towards destruction? Some decisions are life-altering, multigenerational, take-no-prisoners kind of mistakes that affect everything and everyone they touch. It’s like watching an avalanche in slow motion, and you feel helpless.

Recently, I trusted a close friend to share a weighty situation with me. Writing helps me process things, but in general I can be very private. A framed reminder to pray without ceasing hangs on her wall, and she promised to remember my request. When she asked what she could do help I said, “At this point it all comes down to prayer, and that’s what you’re doing.”

Too often, I turn to prayer as a last resort, as an “I’ve done everything else I can do, so now I’ll hand it over to God” alternative. But when you come to the end of yourself, you realize God is the only hope. He always was. I imagine that if could pray without ceasing, 24/7, He will hear me and fix my problems. My friend reminded me He does hear me and He knows my needs.

Even when we don’t know what or how to pray, the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf.

In the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness,
because we do not know what to pray for as we should,
but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings.
Romans 8:26 (CSB)

Please join me at (in)courage for the rest of the post and to pray for those who have left prayer requests in the comments.
